Start Date: March 7, 2013
Classes will be held in room 119 of the Library/Science building
The Art of the Book class provides a hands-on approach to print media and book design, as well as an introduction to printmaking.
The Art of the Book is not only to teach students how to complete a book project, but also, to develop in students a high degree of self-sufficiency, which would allow them to give expression to their art through a variety of media and to transform any obstacles into a creative expression.
Students who take this class will gain knowledge and insight about the print industry, such as kinds of paper, base ink mixing, and the structure of book binding.
The class looks at the qualities of books that have the potential for creative expression beyond the typical notion of a book. Building on characteristics such as the potential for storytelling, performance, and unique methods of display, the class will examine the relationship between word and image and the structure and sequencing of information. Students will develop, and build on, creative ideas using the artist’s book as a medium, focusing on the use of non-adhesive binding as a means of production.
